| HIV/AIDS Prevention & Education
Treatment Support Over the last five years NCNW View Park has been a partnering organization with the National Black HIV AIDS Awareness Day Coalition Los Angeles. The focus of the organization is to increase HIV/AIDS community awareness, involvement and education among marginalized populations. NCNW VP annually coordinates educational workshops and seminars for women & youth in observance of February 7th National Black HIV AIDS Awareness Day. “What Goes Around” NCNW in collaboration with Kaiser Educational Theater and the Los Angeles Parents Union we present yearly to high school students a theatrical production which depicts and educates students on the subject of Life Choices, STDS, HIV, Healthy Living. HIV/AIDS Support Group View Park co-host a HIV/AIDS Co-Ed Support Group. The support group allows an anonymous space for persons affected and infected with HIV/AIDS to talk about challenges and receive needed resource referrals Education Advocacy View Park host educational forums to educate parents on the quality of the education system and announce opportunities available for our children - We are a collaborative partner with the Los Angeles Parents Union as we work toward closing the achievement gap in education for our children Ongoing GEMS Program (Girls Empowerment Mentoring Service) View Park participates as a facilitating group for the GEMS program. GEMS is a 10 week after school mentoring & tutoring program for girls in the 3rd, 4th & 5th grade—this year’s program will begin June 22, 2010 – call the council house for additional information 323-299-9751 Upcoming Fall 2010 Phoenix Leadership Academy Upcoming for Young Women A Mentoring Program designed for girls 12 – 18 years of age - The program is designed for the development of young women. The purpose of this program is to provide mentoring and personal development classes to enhance well-being and promote personal success. The program is offered on the middle school and high school campuses Bethune Recognition Luncheon This year Southern California is celebrating the 36th Annual Bethune Recognition Luncheon – this event is celebrated in all jurisdictions of NCNW and supports the work of our National Organization and Council Headquarters in Washington DC Date for 2010 Southern California Area to be announced Engaging Excellence Training Program Capacity building for business planning, and leadership development - 8 total sessions for information please email martin4eagle@yahoo.com or call 310-686-4849 Future Project Dorothy I.
